PERSONAL INFORMATION
Download the Client Information sheet which we need you to complete and send back. That will just make your safari run much smoother. This form is also used to indicate what cuisine and beverages we should prepare for you.
AIRPORT & VISA REQUIREMENTS
You will be flying in to South Africa's OR Tambo international airport. We will inform you when booking your hunt if you are required to fly in to other airports. We will also inform you about the visa requirements upon booking but most countries can obtain visa's on arrival. An African Guide Safaris employee will be there waiting for you when you land and will have a sign with your name on it. Please download and complete the African Guide Safaris invitation letter as proof of your booking.
TRAVEL & MEDICAL INSURANCE
Some medical insurance plans do not cover patients in a foreign country. Please check your insurance and take out short term medical insurance if needed. Generally speaking, no special vaccinations or inoculations are required coming to South Africa.Medical doctors are within reach in the towns near the hunting area. The hunting area is Malaria free, if you are planning to visit any other parts of Africa while on safari, please let us know so we can inform you of the Malaria in that area. Please consult your personal physician, if you have any special medical conditions. Bring all your personal prescription medication with, along with your doctor's contact details in case of an emergency. Tap water is safe to drink throughout most of the country, but if you prefer bottled water, this is readily available. The African sun can be dangerous, so wear a hat and bring good sun block. We also suggest that you get travel insurance for your trip, most hunters travel with very valuable equipment. Since hunting is a dangerous activity we do require all our clients to fill out and sign our indemnity form.
FIREARMS & AMMUNITION
A bolt action or a double rifle with minimum caliber of 375 or higher is recommended for Big 5/dangerous game.
For dangerous game—40 full metal-jacket cartridges as well as 40 soft-point cartridges.
For medium game, you will need at least 40 soft-point cartridges.
Fit your rifle with a good quality scope with variable power 3-9 x 42 or similar.
For transportation of your rifle we recommend a Hard gun case (Airline approved) for travel and a soft case per gun for moving between hunting areas.
We also offer our clients the option to rent rifles from us while on safari. Renting of rifles will be at $ 50 per day and ammunition at cost. We have the following rifles available:

The import of hunting weapons to South Africa is free .
*We do have agencies that take care of rifle imports on your behalf, they do charge a filing fee, please contact us for more information.
This is what you need to do to bring your rifles into South Africa.

2. A Custom declaration form-home country.
A custom declaration form obtained from your custom office, and major airports.
Your gun needs to be inspected and the serial number checked.
3. Invitation letter and return airline ticket.
Just fill in your details and hand this in with the customs form and your filled out gun application to the Gun officer in South Africa. Remember no semi automatics, no full automatic firearms. no handguns, no 2 rifles off the same caliber. Applicants for importing must be 21 years of age.
BOW HUNTING & CROSSBOW
Bows and crossbows can be brought into the country with only your invitation letter, no other documentation required. Some species require special permits which need to be applied for well in advance, we will inform you when booking your hunt.
VIDEO CAMERAS & ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES
When bringing a video camera or any other electrical appliance, please pack converters for the country you are visiting. You can also buy this adapters at the Airport on arrival. In South Africa we use 3 pronged round hole plugs and some 2 prong round hole plugs. Electric current is 220V and is available in all camps.
CLIMATE
Visitors to the Limpopo can expect an extremely pleasant climate, with almost all year-round sunshine. A hunting season of chilly, early mornings, warm midday’s, dry afternoons and cold nights.
September-April: Warm to very hot.
May-August: Cold in the early morning, afternoon and night.
PACKING LIST
Lightweight camouflage or khaki clothing, hats or caps, and light comfortable rubber soled ankle high walking boots are essential. Bring a warm jacket as well as clothing that can be worn layered ,in our cold months. It can be very cold in the morning, warming up to 80F by midday and chilly again in the afternoon. When packing for your trip, please keep in mind that laundry is done on a daily basis. Clients transferring to hunting areas by chartered aircraft should pack minimally.
